Arsi Sandal Security
It is a tough task for a small farmer with a few acres of land to cultivate sandalwood. They would need a heavy investment in protection equipment and security measures to protect their tree from the smugglers. Because smuggling/theft is so prevalent and starts when the tree starts showing traces of oil content, adequate precautions must be taken as the plants increase in value from the 7th year. Here are the security measurements that would be taken by the Kempi plantation to safeguard the trees.
a) 7 ft fence with a 2ft solar fence and a thick natural fencing of bamboos that rises up to 30-40 ft will be installed. The bamboos also acts as a wind breaker.
b) 24x7 security personnel staff, which would be increased as per required with the growing age of the plant. The security staff stationed at the project will be shuffled every year to avoid any local contact.
c) Full time trained guard dog squad from the 7th year.
d) 24x7 security surveillance: Installation of cameras with a recording facility and watch towers at key locations.
e) Microchips will be inserted into the mature tress to monitor and detect in order to avoid theft and unauthorized transportation. The programmed microchips will be able to pick up any movements of the tree and as such will immediately notify security team and local police officials if moved.
